Historic Moulding
Replicating Ornamental Architectural Details
Historic Replicas, CNC Routing, Wood Working, Historic Home Restoration
A local contractor approached us with 100+ year-old moulding falling apart and coated in decades of paint, and asked us to recreate the original design.
Historic homes have an immense amount of detail that can be lost if effort is not taken to preserve the original features. Using a combination of modern technology and handwork, we captured the original two designs to create 20 replicated wooden parts each.
Using the original molding blocks, we created dimensioned drawings to inform the machining process of the replicas.
With the molding blocks originally being carved by hand, it was important to preserve their bespoke nature. Our designers captured the dimensions and features of the original components and worked with our wood shop to select the tooling and paths needed to execute the design.
