CNC Routing & Custom Panel Cutting Services
Precision routing & large-format cutting for wood, plastics, composites & engineered materials. Production support for architectural panels, enclosures, tooling, signage, custom components and other routed parts.
CNC routing, backed by broader manufacturing expertise.
Our CNC routing capabilities are part of an integrated design + contract manufacturing operation.
Our approach to CNC routing reflects our broader experience as designers and manufacturers.
We regularly work from established production files, but when a part or kit of parts needs additional development before manufacturing, we can help refine the design and the production approach. Starting from the quoting stage, we will look closely at materials, tooling and process to identify opportunities to improve manufacturability, control cost and support efficient repeat production.
Our large-format MultiCam CNC routers support accurate cutting, trimming, shaping and contouring of wood, plywood, engineered plastics, foam, composites and other sheet materials. Common applications include routed panels, custom components, tooling, molds, enclosures and production parts.
Materials we route:
Wood & sheet goods (hardwood, plywood)
Plastics (UHMW, acrylic, polycarbonate)
Non-ferrous metals
Engineered composites (Richlite, phenolic)
Foam & tooling board
Common CNC routing applications:
Custom plywood and wood components
Routed architectural panels & millwork
Enclosures and production parts
Custom signage and displays
Foundry patterns, molds & tooling

CNC routing + machining under one roof
We operate our CNC routers inside and alongside a full CNC machine shop.
Our vertical mills, lathes and turning centers give us the ability to support projects that involve precision-machined components as well as routed sheet materials.
The value for our clients is the ability to work with one design + manufacturing partner across multiple parts of a product or assembly.
CNC routing in the shop
CNC routing equipment and capacity
Tektonics operates multiple large-format MultiCam CNC routers, giving us the capacity to manufacture components and panels for first articles and repeat production runs.
Our routing equipment is supported by in-house programming, tooling, fixturing and manufacturing expertise, allowing us to plan each job around its production requirements and maintain consistency from run to run.
Foundry & casting tooling
We have extensive experience designing and manufacturing foundry tooling, and longstanding relationships with a network of American foundries.
Our CNC routing & machining capabilities allow us to produce patterns, molds and other custom tooling for a range of casting applications.
Our industrial design experience and foundry relationships allow us to support projects that require custom solutions at a range of scales.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Tektonics provides precision CNC routing and custom panel cutting for commercial and industrial applications. We manufacture routed panels, custom components, enclosures, signage, tooling, molds and production parts in a broad range of materials.
-
We route hardwood, plywood and other sheet goods; engineered plastics including UHMW, acrylic and polycarbonate; composites such as Richlite and phenolic; foam and tooling board; and select non-ferrous metals.
-
Yes. Our Richmond manufacturing facility includes multiple large-format MultiCam CNC routers that allow us to manufacture large panels and components for first articles and repeat production runs.
-
Yes. We regularly work with clients who already have established drawings, specifications and production files. We review project requirements as part of the quoting process and develop our own shop drawings to support manufacturing.
-
Yes. If a part needs additional development before manufacturing, our design and engineering team can help refine the design and production approach. We consider materials, tooling and manufacturing processes with manufacturability, cost and repeat production in mind..
-
Yes. Our manufacturing model is primarily focused on first articles and repeat production. We may also support prototype or very-low-volume work when it is part of a broader product development or manufacturing path. Learn more about prototype vs. first article manufacturing.
-
Yes. Our large-format CNC routing capabilities are part of a broader contract manufacturing operation that also includes CNC milling and turning. This allows us to manufacture routed and precision-machined components for products and assemblies that require multiple manufacturing processes.
-
Yes. Tektonics works with OEMs, other manufacturers and prime contractors that need additional CNC routing capacity or manufacturing capabilities they don't have in-house. We support established production requirements as well as projects that could benefit from the additional design and manufacturing expertise we can provide.
-
Yes. Our CNC routing and manufacturing work is performed at our facility in Richmond, but we work with clients throughout the Mid-Atlantic and beyond, including businesses in Maryland, North Carolina, New York, and the entire Washington, D.C., region.
-
Yes. Tektonics designs and manufactures custom foundry patterns, molds and tooling using our CNC routing and industrial design capabilities. We also have longstanding relationships with American foundries that allow us to support broader casting requirements.
